Hall Effect Apparatus
Educational Materials Physics Educational Materials Electricity/Magnetism Learning Activities
The Hall Effect Apparatus explores solid-state physics and conduction phenomena.

  • All Major Components Included
  • Two Material Options: Silver and Tungsten
  • Apparatus Explores Solid-State Physics and Conduction Phenomena
  • Hall Coefficient Determined by Measuring Hall Voltage UH for Various Currents
  • Negative Value Indicates Electrons Are Transporting Voltage
Users determine the Hall coefficient RH of two electrical conductors by measuring the Hall voltage UH for various currents I as a function of the magnetic field B.

A negative value is obtained for the Hall coefficient of silver, which indicates that the charge is being transported by electrons. A positive value is found as the Hall coefficient of tungsten. Consequently, the holes are mainly responsible for conduction in this metal.
