Students explore texture, grain size, mineral composition, and foliation as they work to uncover the identity of rock samples from the three major groups. The set is housed in a compartmented collection box and comes with a study guide.
Contents: 24 unnumbered samples, 1×1" magnifier, acid bottle, and numbering kit.
Rocks: Igneous: andesite, basalt, diorite, gabbro, granite, obsidian, pumice, rhyolite. Sedimentary: coal (bituminous), conglomerate, dolomite, limestone (2) sandstone, shale, siltstone. Metamorphic: amphibolite, coal (anthracite), gneiss, marble, quartzite, schist, slate, soapstone.
