What are the benefits of using a renewable resource?

  • Students Explore Green Chemistry Concepts
  • Acid Synthesizes from Renewable Source During Lab
  • Efficient & Cost-Effective Kit
  • Material for 15 Groups
  • Tests for Salicylic Acid Confirm Students' Work
Students learn it's possible to produce acetylsalicylic acid from a naturally occurring, renewable resource by converting sodium salicylate to salicylic acid and then drying the prepared salicylic acid.

They may then use a quick confirmatory test to examine for the presence of salicylic acid, which can be used to synthesize acetylsalicylic acid.

Ordering information: This product includes sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, methyl salicylate, disposable and graduated pipettes, a teacher's manual, and a student study guide with copymasters.
