Goggles: Choose and Use Guide

When properly selecting eye-ware for the laboratory one should first consider the environment in which they are to be used. There are two main types of protective eye-ware found in the science laboratory. Each type has an intended use dependant on the conditions they are to be worn in.

Safety goggles are primarily designed for splash protection in laboratories involving the use of open containers of chemicals or impact protection where chemicals aren't being used.

Safety glasses are usually used in physical or life science applications having more particulate matter that does not involve a pertinent chemical splash hazard. Goggles and glasses come in a variety of styles intended to fit individual requirements for comfort, ventilation, and size. These criteria should be used to select eye-ware that meets the conditional needs of the laboratory and the individual needs of the user.
